The Wexford Genealogy Organization policy on look-ups are as follows
A look-up is defined as looking up information located in the WGO Library.
This would include all obituaries, CD's and other resources, but does not
include microfilm. (Birth requests must be for someone over 100 years old, this the state of Michigan policy)
Cost for look-up $3.00 per page for making copies and .50 for postage and
handling. The volunteer will try to put as much on a page that will reasonably fit. (Example: more than one one-sided obituary will fit on a page, however a 2 sided obituary, one with information on both front and back of card, will probably require 2 copies.)
Research
Research is defined as looking up information from outside the WGO Library location.
This includes microfilm, court house records, etc.
Cost for research done by WGO Volunteers:
Wexford County Clerks office charges a fee of $10.00 for a death certificate. They do not do
genealogy copies of Death Certificates.
$5 per request (a request is one name) inside Wexford County. (this will be a genealogy copy, or hand copied if a genealogy copy is not available)
The total for a death certificate would be $15 which includes the $5 per request .
A hand typed copy would be the $5.
$10 for Census research, one family group ( i.e. residing in same house), one Census year. (this request requires a minimum of: county to be searched, full name of at least one of the individuals in the family and approximate age of that individual, we would like as much information as possible to pinpoint the correct family.)
$25 for a Census search everyone with same last name per census year. (if only one family/entry is found $15 would be refunded, if only 2 families/entries are found $10 would be refunded. Requires a minimum of county to be searched and surname.
WGO does not accept research request that ask for "everyone with the last name of ________________" or other blanket request (unless the request is for a Census). Those requests will automatically be returned to the requestor.
Research request must be specific in stating who is being looked for, what event (birth, marriage, death, etc.), and the time frame or date for that event.
